Lily Allen

On Saturday night I was shocked to hear a musical guest on Saturday Night Live that I actually enjoyed.
Lately most of the performers on that show sound horrible when signing live, but then there is Lily Allen.
Her music is incredibly infectious.
I liken it to music of the 50's and maybe a Disney soundtrack, it sounds light and airy at first but it has a very modern edge.
I can't rave enough about her. I'm predicting that she will be a huge success over here.

(Not really a big prediction considering she's already huge in the U.K. and was featured on Perez Hilton.)

Commenting on Posts

I was talking to a co-worker a couple of days ago and I found out that she has been visiting my blog. Which is great I love when people visit. During our conversation I mentioned that people could comment on things that I have posted and she mentioned that she wasn't sure how to do that. I figured this would be a good time to explain how you can leave a comment, good or bad. I'm sure there is something that I have said that you disagree with, and if I have let me know. So here is a quick tutorial on how to rant right back at me.

At the bottom of every post there is a date and time that the post was made. To the right of that there is "comment".

All that you need to do is click on comment and it will open up a new window.

When the new window opens you will see any comments already left by other people. Just scroll down to the "leave your comment" box and type your comment.

After your done with the comment you have a choice, if you have your own blogger account you can comment with your name or be anonymous and leave me guessing.

Last step is to type in the word verification. Good luck deciphering the random word they give you.

After that your comment will show up after I get a chance to read it.

Doctor Who and Torchwood

I remember when I was young and introduced to Doctor Who for the first time. It must have been in the late 70's when I stayed over at my grandparents house. I can't remember for sure who liked the show more, my Grandmother or my Grandfather, but I do remember my Grandmother enjoying it quite a bit.
I hated it.
I couldn't wait for the show to be over so we could watch something I liked.
It's funny how things change.
Last winter CBC started playing the new Doctor Who. I will admit at first I really wasn't that interested in it. That was until I heard that it was being directed by Russell T. Davis, creator of Queer as Folk. The original British version, that is.



The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler


From the first episode of Doctor Who I was hooked. It's a great series that provides laughs as well as some down right creepy episodes. The episode that really creeped me out was called The Empty Child. I still get chills thinking about it. Coincidently enough, this was the episode that Captain Jack Harkness was introduced for the first time.
Captain Jack was so well liked by viewers that he was given his own spin off series entitled Torchwood.



Torchwood has not yet started to air here in Canada but will begin shortly, also on CBC. I made the mistake of searching out episodes on line and I have already watched the first season and it was as good as the Doctor, but now I have to wait another year for season 2. Captain Jack is played by a great actor by the name of John Barrowman.

If you haven't caught Doctor Who yet and you enjoy some good sci-fi check it out, and when Torchwood starts don't miss it.
I'm sure my Grandparents would approve.

Most Depressing Day of the Year

Congratulations on surviving the most depressing day of the year.
January 22nd 2007 is the most depressing day on the calendar based on a highly scientific examination including things such as credit card debt, lack of sun etc.....
We did it.
It gets better from here on out.

Stephen Harper a Year in Review

Tomorrow marks a sad day for Canada.

It was one year ago on January 23, 2006 when the Canadian people said that they were tired with Liberal rule and had to pick someone else.

Thats how we got Stephen Harper and his merry band of Conservatives.

Lets take a look back at a year with Stephen Harper as Prime Minister.

First their is David Emerson the Liberal turncoat who Prime Minister Harper welcomed in to his Cabinet.
After his party called Belinda Stronarch such charming names as Tramp and Slut for leaving the Conservative party for a party that more closely represented her political beliefs.

We can't forget about Michael Fortier who was Harper's campaign co-chair during the election.
Who was and still is not an elected member of Parliament.
(He had an opportunity to run in a few by-elections this year but declined, maybe because he couldn't win)
This from the Prime Minister who promised that he would bring a new sense of accountability to Ottawa.

Then there was the Conservative "Environmental Plan" that had such lofty targets for reduction of pollutants some where in the year 2057...
But wait when he realized that Canadians were not dumb enough to fall for his plan, he fired the Minister for the Environment, Rona Ambrose, and replaced her with John Baird.
Who's new plan is the old Liberal initiative that Harper canceled when he took power.

There was also the cancellation of funding for Women and Aboriginals groups. Traditional strong supporters of the Conservative party....wait maybe that's where they went wrong.

Of course there was the whole same sex marriage debacle.
An issue that was decided before he was even elected, was brought up again to appease his right wing fanatical voter base.
Irregardless of the fact that he once again was attacking hard won rights of a minority.

Income Trust's remember that promise?
Harper was not going to change the rules at all, and he did.
Who lost the most?
The people who could afford it the least our Seniors.
Billions were lost overnight that many will never be able to recoup.

Alright thats enough for now this is starting to depress me.

We are fed up with hearing how everything is the Liberals fault, your in power now. You are now longer Canada's "new" government and it's time to take responsibility for your governments actions.

Mr. Harper please don't forget that you and your party were not elected based on your political beliefs, but the fact that a message had to be sent to the Liberal Party.

They seem to have got the message.

There will be an election before this year ends and I can't wait to send Mr. Harper a message of my own.
